Michel Metz

With his wife and his two sons by his side, Michel Metz is a hard worker with a deep respect for the soil. In 1985, he purchased 96 acres of Gewurztraminer in the Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr.

WINEMAKING, A PASSION

My father owned a vineyard and worked the vines with great respect. I was thus plunged into the winemaking world at a very young age. For me, working the vines is a true passion; I love having such proximity to the land.

PRUNING TRIMMING: WHEN THE WINEMAKER’S SKILLS SHINE THROUGH

Pruning is a key time for all winegrowers, as it allows us to form and sculpt the vine stock as we choose. This work is crucial to the development of the vine. We must plan our approach carefully before going to work, as any damage done here is irreversible.

100% NATURAL HARVESTS

My wife and I have been cultivating our own vegetables since I can remember and cooking them to eat during harvest season. For us, it’s a pleasure to share with our harvesters the fruits of our labor, the taste of what we work for and love…

MY FAVORITE WINE

The Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr Clos Gaensbrœnnel is a powerful wine. It expresses everything that is unique about this grape variety — fruity, exotic aromas, flavours of rose and violet with a hint of spices.

ALSACE, A REGION RICH IN BOTH ITS NATURE AND ITS PEOPLE

Alsace is an Eden that has been shaped over time to make the most of what the region has to offer. The plains, the vineyards, the mountains–all offer very different landscapes–a true mosaic of colors, scents and flavors.
